Wycoller Country Park and Ferndean Manor

AtomA short distance from Moorlodge Country Retreat is the historic and beautiful Wycoller Country Park. Set in the Wycoller Dene on the ancient route from Lancashire to Yorkshire, this hamlet has a wealth of walks for you to explore the area.

The village of Wycoller is closed to outside traffic, travelling from Moorlodge Country Retreat you can park in the car park for the Atom Panopticon; don’t forget to enjoy the view. Then walk down to the village where you will find Wycoller Hall. This is widely reputed to be the inspiration for Ferndean in Jane Eyre.

In the village itself you will find the bridges for crossing the Wycoller Beck. Some of these are reckoned to be over a thousand years old. The information for this is well documented on the Friends of Wycoller website. On there you will find all the information about this stunning village and many activities to do including all about the guided bat and wildlife walks. The Friends of Wycoller also organise ghost tours around the hall and village. As part of your stay this could be combined with the Pendle Witches Trail.  Young children will love the fairy walk along the river and feeding the ducks.  The Aisled Barn which is in the centre of the village  has been converted into an information centre telling visitors about it’s history and there is a lovely traditional tearoom serving light meals, scones and cakes.
