About 40 minutes drive from Moorlodge is Bolton Abbey which is well worth a visit. At its heart is the twelve century church and Augustinian Priory ruins set on the banks of the river Wharf. A haven for walkers with over 80 miles of footpaths to explore taking you along the river bank and through Strid Wood up onto Barden Moor. The land itself is owned by the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire and over the years they have created activities for all ages. Children will enjoy the stepping stones or simply paddling in the river whilst having a picnic beside the water. Or you could treat yourself in one of the many gift shops, cafes or tea rooms. A full programme of activities is run throughout the year. See the Bolton Abbey website for more information.
