A short distance from Moorlodge Country Retreat is the historic and beautiful Wycoller Country Park. Set in the Wycoller Dene on the ancient route from Lancashire to Yorkshire, this hamlet has a wealth of walks for you to explore the area. From Moorlodge Country Retreat you can reach Wycoller by parking in the Atom Panopticon car park and walking down the path into the village. In the village you will find the ruins of Wycoller Hall. This is widely reputed to be the inspiration for Ferndean Manor in Jane Eyre.
In the village itself you will find the old pack horse bridge crossing the Wycoller Beck which is a great place to stop and have a picnic and paddle in the stream. Young children will love the fairy walk along the river and feeding the ducks. The Aisled Barn which is in the centre of the village has been converted into an information centre telling visitors about it’s history and there is a lovely traditional tearoom serving light meals, scones and cakes.
